Good Morning,
As promised in my earlier post about explaining the factors needed to be considered for elevating the level of WDAD (Web Design and Development) of Kuwait, please read below. Lets get started..
Kuwait Market and General Design Taste
Kuwait Web Market right now is all set to take off. The evolution of websites over time and design taste of the general lot has got much better in the past year. The distaste for too much flash to elegant flash components is just a sign of good taste. Simple designs which are corporate and semi-corporate are kicking in. As always its been, the creative minds are still hunting for inspiration and developers looking for good ideas.
Suggestions: If only awareness could be spread of importance of websites and other media, which would clearly explain the benefits to be derived, then, we can expect our Kuwait boat to set sail on full winds. Some co-operation and generosity would be required to organize events of awareness.
Staff Affordability
Design Staff in Kuwait can be an expensive issue, when it comes to hiring specialized professionals who do specific aspects of the design process on par with world standards. “One man hero” notion is still lurking around in Kuwait. We know why it still persists. Specialized professionals are needed, and that raises the question of Staff Affordability, as specialized professionals come for more than the average wage which Kuwait offers.
The management needs to think long term here, if there were to reap the benefits of parallel processing of projects and successful project management of the same, then probably they should consider hiring professionals than hurrying up and delivering not-so-great deliverables.
Web Technologies Review
Its imperative (must) that Web Technologies reviews are done in Kuwait to spread the awareness about the latest technologies and how they can be put to maximum benefit for Kuwait Society. These reviews attract designers and developers not only from Kuwait but also from the GCC. It would be a jackpot day for the design and development folks.
Setting Implicit and Explicit Standards for WDAD
By implicit standards what I mean is those hidden standards which everyone knows but are never mentioned anywhere in print or said explicitly. Setting these rules is vital and definitely very difficult. However, we need to start with kicking one stone at a time.
An example of an implicit rule would be to know the general price for so and so specifications of the project. We just don’t play the blind hitting game. It annoys a lot of corporate folk. Explicit rules are those which can be made more louder during the Technology reviews, developer seminars, Dewaniya talks and during general banter. For e.g. coding and accessibility standards are set by W3C.
Management Approaches
One of the fundamental causes for success or failure of any market segment is the overall management approach of the pool of companies involved in a specific Market segment. The management approaches of the Web Design and Development companies needs to be thoroughly analyzed, keeping in mind mutual benefit, long term fruits and overall development of WDAD. Successful businessmen would have grasped the point which I am trying to make here.
Good Business Models and Strategies
These go hand in hand with the management strategies. They require careful planning, co-ordination and execution. A good business model would always cut down the unnecessary chores, increase productivity, efficiency and would be able to meet the goals set by the company, while paralleling getting repeat business and good customer base.
Healthy Competition
We are all in for business and competition is a force which drives and pushes the limits of excellence. Like Pan Arab Web Awards, Kuwait Web Awards is a great initiative which is encouraging companies, freelancers and any kind of talent to come out and stretch their wings. It also breeds healthy competition.
Hope the above article was helpful.
Thank you for your time and patience.
